Forest City Announces $5.5M Contribution for 3rd Stapleton School

Message From the Stapleton Community Education Coalition: Forest City announced today its commitment to gift $5.5 million towards the development of a new Stapleton school. This is contingent on approval from the City of Denver. Councilman Hancock is working directly with the Mayor’s office to confirm approval. However, this is clearly a wonderful first step in our long-term roadmap to address capacity concerns and allow every student in Stapleton to attend a traditional neighborhood school (ECE-12). Forest City is also conducting a census to identify as precisely as possible the number of children who will be attending DPS schools in the coming years. We would like to thank everyone for their diligent work and continued support to make this a reality including Forest City, Denver Public Schools, Senator Bennet, Senator Johnston, Councilman Hancock, City of Denver, DURA, Stapleton Foundation, current school administrators, Sun Education Committee and most importantly, all SCEC members and Stapleton residents.

As a Stapleton resident who purchased the home we did based on Forest City’s marketing claims that the third school, the new town center and a grocery store would be built just around the corner, I’m relieved to hear they are stepping up. They need to. They have just as big a stake as we, the residents do, to make this neighborhood succeed. We have a great community committed to making this work. Thanks for keeping up the pressure, neighbors, and making Forest City do the right thing!
