Written by Laura Barr:
Each spring, I receive a number of phone calls from parents asking if it is too early to start looking at private schools. The answer is “no”! While most of the admissions processes for next year have begun to wind down and the schedule of open houses and school visits won’t begin until next fall, the spring season offers an excellent opportunity to observe a school’s grounds and community at their best. The private school choice is a deliberate path and those families who start early will have clear plans, strategies and alternatives, all of which reduce stress and anxiety around the “admissions game.” School expos, carnivals and auction fundraisers offer a window into how schools function as a community and are often open to the public. Be respectful of the administration and keep in mind that these celebrations and events are often steeped in deep tradition. This is the the time to observe the community and take note of questions you’d like to ask when the admissions process opens up in the fall.
