Thanks to TikTok, we’ve been learning all sorts of weird and wonderful things – from why Digestive biscuits are called Digestives to sneaky tricks to apply the perfect winged eyeliner.
But as well as teaching us valuable life hacks, the videos often make us pause for thought.
This seems to have been a situation many users found themselves in recently after stand up comedian Freddy Quinne shared a post about Royal Mail.
The 32-year-old took to TikTok to reveal the mind-blowing realisation he’d had after all of these years on the planet – that Royal Mail and the Post Office aren’t the same.
And while many people are bound to know this already, a surprising number of people took to the comments to admit they had no clue either that this was the case.
In a video that’s been watched more than 626,000 times, Freddy says: “Right, I’ve just learnt something that’s absolutely blown my f***ing mind.
“I am 32-years-old, I’ve had this piece of knowledge in my head for my entire life and it’s absolute b**ks and I’m gonna tell you what it is. Get ready because this is gonna blow your fing mind.
“So you know Royal Mail and you know the Post Office, they are two completely separate companies.
“Legitimately I always just thought that Royal Mail and Post Office were the same thing because they both delivered letters and they were both red. No! Different f***ing companies mate.”
He adds: “Mind. Blown.”
The video went viral garnering over 40,000 likes and thousands of shares and comments.
Many people replied admitting they also didn’t know about this, with one person saying: “WHATTTT.”
Another wrote: “Excuse me… Sorry, what?!”
“OMG,” replied a third.
A fourth proclaimed: “No, no my life is a lie.”
“Wait wait wait wait wait,” commented a fellow user. “I thought they were joint together too. Thanks for that, watch me tell everyone like I’m smart.”
Others claimed they had always known this and that it was obvious because the companies have different names.
Meanwhile frustrated postal workers agreed that not enough people knew about this fact.
“I work in a post office. I have to explain this to the public at least three times a day,” admitted someone else.
A different user added: “I used to work at Post Office and the amount of arguments I’ve had with customers trying to explain this.”
The Department for Business have previously shared a ‘myth busting’ post about the Royal Mail, which explains the difference between the two companies.
It says: “Royal Mail and the Post Office are separate companies with independent Boards.
“Royal Mail is the company that delivers parcels and letters – the provider of the universal postal service.
“The Post Office is the nationwide network of branches offering a range of postal, Government and financial services.”
